Synopsis

Their destiny is written in blood.

Welcome to Star Haven, where the police arrest and imprison alternative humans, if not execute them outright. When outlaw Hannah Quinn saves Officer Scott Grey’s life by bloodsurfing through his broken body, he winds up on the wrong side of the kill line.

Hannah blew any chance she had of escaping Star Haven when she chose to save Scott’s life. Scott has a reputation for killing Alts instead of arresting them. Now that she’s triggered his dormant Alt ability, he’s forced to go on the run with her until she can break his despised Alt power.

Suspicion dies hard after a lifetime of conditioning. Despite the threat to their lives, Hannah finds herself falling for the one man she can’t trust—and Scott falls for the woman who destroyed his life.

With love and mistrust at war in a city where betrayal can earn your freedom, will Hannah and Scott’s tenuous bond be enough to save them?

Thunder City where Superheroes are the norm.

Blood Surfer is a bit of a unique spin on the superhero romance genre. Rather than just a handful of superheroes we get the unique city of genetically alternative superheroes with a multitude of powers. At one time, they were widespread and even inhabited the city of Star Haven. Then six months ago all alts, as the superheroes are known were banned from the city. The humans of Star Haven were tired of paying for the damages caused by alts and the threat of possible telepathic invasion of their privacy.

Unfortunately, Hannah Quinn had no way to escape the clutches of her power hungry mother’s reach by leaving the city for Thunder City where alts are accepted and revered when all the others left. When you’re underage and every cop is looking for the Mayor’s daughter there’s no transport available to escape without recapture. So for the past six months, Hannah has lived incognito in a lean-to on top of the hospital. Then one day, things get crazy and a man drops out of a listing helicopter right onto her makeshift home. To say his damages are significant would be an understatement. To top that off the man Hannah decides to save is known as an alt killer and he’s a cop. Talk about putting herself into a precarious situation. While healing Officer Scott Grey, Hannah notices a small black thread in his brain that appears to have been severed so she repairs it as well. Her healing complete and Hannah totally drained, she passes out at Scott’s feet just as he’s coming too.

Scott has had one hell of a day already before he wakes and finds the missing Mayor’s daughter at his feet. A quick trip to the ER and its time to decide whether or not to alert the Mayor, after all Hannah has just turned eighteen and it’s really up to her whether she wants to go back or not. When Hannah accuses her mother of killing her stepfather and Scott discovers that she is in fact, an alt on the run he decides to help the damsel in distress. The fact that he has discovered that he now has alt powers himself and wants Hannah to reverse the process and make him normal again might just play into things just a little bit. Then there are the secrets he’s keeping… much like Hannah has her own secrets. But secrets have a way of coming out into the open at some point.

Blood Surfer has all the danger, excitement, and suspense of a typical superhero novel with the added benefit of two superheroes falling helplessly in love. There are evil machinations at foot and Hannah’s mom appears to be in league with some pretty bad people with nefarious plans for the alts. It’s going to take sacrifice, hard work and just a bit of luck for all the alts to come out on top. If you like superhero romances you’re going to enjoy this start to the Thunder City series.
