Series: The Devil’s Dires, Book 1

Synopsis

There’s no escaping a Dire Wolf on the hunt…

Feared by even his own kind, Bez of the Dire Wolf shifters knows exactly how to succeed in any battle. Even if that means racking up collateral damage along the way. A simple mission into the swamplands to save a teenage wolf shifter should have been an easy track and retrieval for a man with his training, but nothing comes easy when the fates get involved.

In one night, Omega Sariel went from a free, single shewolf to a captive with a teenage girl to watch over and a couple of guards intent on making her life miserable…what little is left of it. Then a soldier with ice in his eyes walks in, and the mating call begins. He’s too tough, too harsh, too murderous…but when your life hangs in the balance, a lethal fighter in your corner is better than battling alone. Especially one who isn’t afraid to get a little dirty with her.

Two kidnapped women, one dangerous soldier unknowingly about to come face-to-face with fate, and a monster set on destroying everything in its path. In the world of the Dire Wolves, a retrieval is a simple mission for the unit of soldiers that make up their pack. But this time, a single glance blows simple right out of the swamp and forces Bez to make his stand alone.

One soldier, one fight…one chance at forever.

Savage Surrender is the lengthened version of a novella originally released in 2015 in the Masters Of The Hunt boxset.

Mating trumps orders

Picking up Savage Surrender was a pleasant surprise. Reading the blurb I had no way of knowing that this new series was related to Ms. Leigh’s Feral Breed series. I suppose I really should have suspected as more than one of the author’s series are set in the same world. The Gathering Tales, Feral Breed Motorcycle Club, Feral Breed Followings to name a few. I have to tell you I’ve enjoyed every one of the books I’ve read in the series. Savage Surrender is no exception. Besides sharing a world, the different series hold a linking concern. The bad guys are constantly after the pack omegas. Kidnapping and forced breeding seem to be the overriding theme.

Sariel has been in captivity for some time when she’s told her value has diminished. After exhaustive tests, it’s been determined that she is unable to breed. As a total dud, she’s expendable to her captors. Not so the young teenage omega that is brought in to share her captivity. Things are looking pretty bleak until Mr. Tall, Dark and Dire comes to the rescue. Finding out she’s potentially collateral damage in the rescue of the teen is disheartening, to say the least, especially when your rescuer is none other than your mate.

Beelzebub, aka Bez, belongs to a very rare breed of wolf shifters, the Dires. Unlike the typical wolf shifter, the Dires live for centuries in far smaller numbers. Worse yet none of the pack has found their mate in all the centuries they’ve lived. The Devil’s Dires are the elite warriors for the NALB, the ruling power over all shifters in the country. They’re bigger, faster and a step above their brethren. When Bez is sent on a mission to save a recently kidnapped omega teen he’s told the first priority is the teen’s rescue but ultimately they want the capturers live for interrogation. Rumors say that the omegas are descendants of the Dires. So protecting the omegas takes on a whole other brand of urgency for the Dires. Still when a Dire is on a mission collateral damage is a given. But what happens when the collateral damage proves to be your mate? Time to change the game plans and roll with a new order of business, orders be damned.

With the capturers and a werewolf on their tails Bez, Sariel and the teen, Angelita are on the run. The capturers wouldn’t be such a challenge if not for the werewolf, a scourge of female wolf shifters everywhere. Unlike a natural shifter, the werewolf hunger for the flesh of the she-wolf. It’s going to take everything Bez has to keep his mate and the teen safe.

Savage Surrender is a typical offering from Ms. Leigh… thank goodness. I’ve come to expect plenty of action, danger, and spicy lovin. Her wolves are all alpha hotness, her heroines no wilting violets. I’m glad to be adding this latest to my collection of keepers and can’t wait to see where Savage Sanctuary, the next in The Devil’s Dires series takes us.

About Author

Ellis LeighA storyteller from the time she could talk, Ellis grew up among family legends of hauntings, psychics, and love spanning decades. Those stories didn’t always have the happiest of endings, so they inspired her to write about real life, real love, and the difficulties therein. From farmers to werewolves, store clerks to witches—if there’s love to be found, she’ll write about it. Ellis lives in the Chicago area with her husband, daughters, and to tiny fish that take up way too much of her time.
