An early arrival and a cancelled flight thrust two shifters into the same hotel in the same city on the same night. They find each other in the hotel bar and head out into the city for a walk. Shane, an Alpha wolf, takes Layla, she-wolf, on a date to remember in the beautiful city. They spend a magical night together before parting ways in the morning.

Several months later tragedy strikes and they are reunited.

A healing love to cherish

Having already read Vengeance and Awakening I was already rather familiar with Shane and Layla. Nevertheless, I was still thrilled to be able to go back and see where their relationship started. North’s Legacy is a very poignant tale of love, loss, grief and the power of love to heal our emotional wounds.

Layla Drexler has been promised by her alpha father in marriage to a neighboring alpha… in exchange for a piece of property. She has lived her life with her father and her brothers letting her know in no uncertain terms that she leaves a lot to be desired in the looks department. Boy friends have been nonexistent in her life. Let’s face it she hasn’t even been kissed, let alone had the chance to lose her virginity. With the way her brothers follow her around, there has been no chance even if the opportunity presented itself. As one last hurrah before she’s bartered away, she begs her folks for a trip to see her Aunt on the east coast. On a layover in NYC, she ends up stranded at the airport when her flight is canceled. It’s her suave manipulation of the terminal agent as she argues with him that attracts the attention of Shane, well that and her enticing natural fragrance of ripe peaches. Her mischievous comebacks when he attempts to introduce himself and get her name are what has him intrigued enough to seek her out. Just his luck they’re booked in at the same hotel.

Shane North is the quintessential alpha’s alpha. He is taking a few days down time in NYC before his paranormal special ops team gathers for their next mission. At a century and a half, he’s a bit weary of war and soldiering. More and more he’s thinking of taking a mate and raising a family. His wolf is telling him he’s found just the one he’s looking for. One romantic night on the town with Layla and he’s positive, but he has a mission to complete before he can hang up his hat. However, in the throes of passion he comes very close to marking her, something she is very surprised to hear when he admits as much. Thinking she is stuck in an untenable position with her father’s plans, Layla leaves Shane with a false phone number.

Watching these two struggle through the angst of being apart while at the same time watching Layla grow into herself and celebrate the new life she carries was moving. When tragedy strikes I found myself crying my eyes out. When the two are finally reunited you get a real chance to see how healing love can be. North’s Legacy was a very emotionally satisfying read. I would recommend it to anyone who loves a good shifter tale. While you’re at it, you might want to pick up the others in the Immortal Savior series. I’ve enjoyed every one of them.

I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review.
