Synopsis

From the author of My Highland Bride—hailed by Sandy Blair as “an entertaining time-travel story packed with spice, humor, fantasy, and nonstop adventure”—comes a sensual novel featuring a wolf-shifting chieftain who travels centuries to modern-day Scotland to tame his one and only.

Cursed to live forever with neither wife nor child, Ronan Sutherland has watched all he cherishes turn to dust—more than once. For hundreds of years, he’s been trapped behind the mists of Loch Ness, hoping to identify the one woman who is prophesied to break the spell. Now, at last, the fates have aligned, and he’s being sent into the future to fetch her. After a single glimpse, Ronan knows he’s been waiting all his life for this passionate woman.

Unlike her time-traveling sisters, Mairi Sinclair is perfectly content to remain in the present. As a hospital nurse in Edinburgh, she cherishes the opportunity to put her gift of healing powers to good use. But everything changes the morning a mysterious wolf darts in front of her car. Touching the wounded creature’s tawny coat, a tingle surges through her. Yet when she returns with aid, Mairi is shocked to find instead a man with broad shoulders and fire in his eyes—a man who tempts her to unleash the animal within.

Wolves, Witches & Dragons with a time-travel twist…mmm

Long ago, in the far distant past, a king married a very evil witch. He waited for an heir and none were forthcoming. So, he went to his leeman… an act which brought down a curse upon his beloved leeman, himself, one of his warriors and his heir. Within the year, he was dead never having the chance to see his heir. His pregnant leeman was cursed to turned into a wolf. His warrior was cursed to live as the water dragon of Loch Ness. His heir, Ronan though suffered the worse perhaps. For every woman he meets and marries dies within a year along with any children they should have. And yet his very prophesied salvation is the woman who can break the curse, a curse that holds his mother and mentor bound to their shifted natures, his lands cloaked in magic and himself stuck in a life of loneliness and despair.

So what’s a man to do when he is summoned to marry the matriarch of the Sinclair clan’s granddaughter? I suppose he’d be a little reluctant, especially when he had already attempted the very thing with another of her granddaughters and was made out to be the very villain of the piece. Imagine his surprise when he’s told he’ll have to retrieve his very reluctant betrothed from the future. To top that off, his well-kept secret isn’t so much a secret to Mother Sinclair. She’s counting on the very nature of his wolf to see him safely to the future and back.

Mairi Sinclair is tired of the nightly harangues of her grandmother through the portals of time. She has absolutely no intention of traveling into the past. Mairi is quite content in her life in the 21st century as a nurse. Thank you, very much! Besides being a time runner witch, Mairi has the ability to heal. Oh and one other little quirk… she can tell when she’s being lied to and deceived. That in itself could be counted a blessing or a curse depending on how you look at it. It certainly doesn’t help when it comes to relationships. How is a woman to trust and fall in love when she knows the man she’s with is lying to her or holding back?

So, when she hits a wolf with her car only to have him disappear on her and then to have a man comes visiting directly on the heels of the wolf’s disappearance leaves Mairi in a very suspicious state. Even so she finds herself falling for the mysterious Ronan. But Mairi and her freaky lie detector nature knows she isn’t being told the truth, at least not ALL of the truth. Then her suspicions are confirmed and she finds out Ronan is from the past and has been sent to retrieve her to cure a curse that will drive away the growing evil which may have a far-reaching impact on the world. Through it all though she knows she is being fed half-truths, something she knows a real relationship will not survive. So love or no love, she’ll cure the curse and then she is so outta there.

It’s going to take a bit of trust and truthfulness for these two to find their way to HEA. The ghost of a spiteful witch is going to have to be dealt with. I’ve always loved a good time-travel romance. Adding wolves, witches and dragons to mix just made it all the better. I really enjoyed My Tempting Highlander and now I’m wanting to go back and read the preceding books in the Highland Hearts series because I find the idea of scottish time runner witches definitely intriguing. Even more, I’m looking forward to reading Mairi’s sister, Lilia and Graham, the dragon’s story.
