The New York Times bestselling author of Panther Prowling returns to the Otherworld where one of the D’Artigo sisters faces a terrifying challenge that’s more personal than she ever could have imagined.

We’re the D’Artigo sisters: savvy half-human, half-Fae ex-operatives for the Otherworld Intelligence Agency. My sister Camille is a wicked-good witch. Delilah is a two-faced werecat and a Death Maiden. And me? I’m Menolly, a vampire married to a gorgeous werepuma. As the war in Otherworld arrives, Blood Wyne, Queen of the Vampires, summons me. Apparently, my position as Roman’s consort entails more than I imagined…

As the Demon Lord Shadow Wing creates his own sinister version of the Keraastar Knights—the guardians of the spirit seals—to destroy the portals and free himself from the Sub Realms, his ally, the necromancer Telazhar, leads an assault from Otherworld into the streets of Seattle. And my sisters and I are caught dead center.

Then, on the eve of war, my wife, Nerissa, is captured. The enemy demands we surrender the rest of the spirit seals, or they are going to kill her. I will do anything to save her. Even if it means leading an army of vampires into the very depths of the Subterranean Realms…

Sometimes you’ll sacrifice all for the one you love

I’ll preface this review with the following: I absolutely love Yasmine Galenorn’s paranormal urban fantasy series. I don’t think I’ve missed a novel in the Otherworld/Sisters of the Moon series or the Indigo Court Series. I’m catching up on the Fly By Night series. They are all 5 Star reads in my books. They are full of action and adventure. The suspense always keeps me glued to the page. To top that off they are set in the Seattle area which I will always consider home. That being said…

Darkness Raging is told from Menolly D’Artigo’s POV. For those of you that are unfamiliar with the series, each book in the series is told from the POV of one of three D’Artigo sisters, Camille, Delilah and Menolly. The D’Artigo sisters are half-human and half-fae. Each has unique attributes. Camille is a moon witch and soon to be crowned as one of three earthside fae queens. She also has three sexy intriguing and unique husbands. Delilah is the only living Death Maiden for the Autumn Lord. She is engaged to a Shadow Dragon shifter. In her living life, Menolly was a jian-tu (acrobat). Now she is a half-fae vampire. She is married to the werepuma, Nerissa and consort to the prince of the vampire nation, Roman.

With Darkness Raging being the 18th book in the series you can imagine there is a lot of history. Luckily, each book stands on its own. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend that you read them all. Each is fast paced and action packed. But like all series they build on what has come before. That being said, the sisters are at war. They were sent earthside from the fae realm by the Otherworld Intelligence Agency. Very quickly they became enmeshed in a quest to find nine spirit seals and save both Earthside and Otherworld from the machinations of Shadow Wing, Demon Lord of the Subterranean Realm. Things have been getting pretty dire up to the point where Darkness Raging begins. Otherworld has been devastated by war. The enemy holds half the seals. The paranormals earthside are constantly bombarded by the insurgent maneuvering of demons from the sub-realms. If that weren’t bad enough they have to deal with human hate groups.

Life is a challenge before you add in the complexities of love and relationships. Menolly has no sooner gotten her marriage and relationship with Nerissa on track than a new wrench is thrown into their works. Vampire Queen, Blood Wyne has decided that her son Roman needs an heir, a princess rather than a consort and if she can’t have Menolly without Nerissa then she’ll take both. The reclusive dragons have decided to enter the fray. Shadow Wing has a few more nasties in store for everyone in his maniacal madness. Then Nerissa is captured.

Darkness Raging is about making the hard choices… growing up, making sacrifices and moving on. As usual, I had my moments of laughter and my moments of tears. I have totally fallen in love with the D’Artigo sisters and their cast of supporters. If there is one downfall in all of this, it’s the fact that I know that the end is coming… just three more books until the series comes to an end. I am ever thankful that Ms. Galenorn has begun another series, Fly By Night that spins off from this one. So, if you are still confused as to whether or not I would recommend Darkness Raging… wake up! That’s a resounding YES! If you like the fantastical world of the paranormal then you are going to love this series.
