Synopsis

Aaron isn’t looking for love, but it finds him – and it has a few surprises in store…

A laidback man who goes with the flow
Aaron is happy for his friends who’ve found love, but he’s starting to feel as if he’s an endangered species – a single guy. Not that he’s looking for anyone. But if someone were to turn up, he figures they would be female, younger than his twenty-seven years, and as disinterested as he was in searching for a soul mate.

He’s about to get it wrong on most counts.

Working in the Acadia National Park, he meets all kinds of people, like that painter he met the other day. A quiet guy, but he certainly made an impression. Because for some reason, Aaron can’t get him out of his mind.

A bruised soul seeking inspiration
Dean has picked up his paintbrush again. A famous artist who’s spent the last couple of years producing book illustrations under a different name, he’s come back to Maine seeking inspiration – and leaving the past behind him. The glorious natural beauty breathes new life into him, and it brings with it a new friend, a handsome ranger, the only person Dean has felt a connection to in a long time.

But when that connection unexpectedly becomes physical and Dean’s emotions get entangled, he fears history is about to repeat itself.

He’s not about to let his heart be broken a second time.

A great bi-awakening story.

If you haven’t read the other books in this series, I think you can read this as a standalone but you will probably enjoy it more if you’ve read the series in order. I love how K.C. Wells has woven all of the Maine Men stories together while giving each couple their own HEA in their individual books.

I’ve really enjoyed seeing each of the guys in this tight group of friends get their HEA. Aaron gets his in this story just not quite the way he expected. Aaron has always been pretty laid back and we really get to see that in this story. He’s the only one of his group of friends who’s straight – or so he thought.

Dean had a bad breakup with a boyfriend five years ago and it really set him into a tailspin. He was no longer able to paint the beautiful canvases he had become known for and instead started doing illustrations for books, albeit not under his real name. When he meets Aaron something clicks and he starts painting again like crazy; he’s found a new muse – too bad he’s straight.

I love a good bi-awakening story and this one is beautiful. It has the added bonus of being a friends-to-lovers one as Aaron and Dean begin a great friendship before they start a friends-with-benefits arrangement and finally move on to something much deeper.

It was great getting to visit with all of the Maine Men again and I especially love Levi’s Grammy. I have to make one tiny observation about Grammy…she’s 70 years old and depicted as someone who needs to take naps and needs help in her garden. I live in an over 55 community and I know many women in their mid-80’s who spend a lot of time gardening, taking long bike rides, dancing and enjoying other vigorous activities. I’m sure it’s hard for authors to decide what is the right age to make someone they want to be considered elderly.

When I come across characters like Grammy while reading I just kind of laugh to myself and move on. I love K.C.’s writing and this did not affect my enjoyment of the story, it’s just an observation that I felt compelled to make. 😊

I’m really going to be sad to see this series end but I also can’t wait to read Levi and Noah’s story coming in late August.
