Theft, capture, and an impossible-to-refuse offer—life can change in a heartbeat.

When Stevie Allardyce is caught stealing food from Barista Boys, he doesn’t think life can get any worse. Starving, desperate and homeless, Stevie’s only crime is trying to survive another day.

Mack Porter is outraged when the filthy street kid is offered a job and a place to live at the café. Stevie’s a thief, caught red-handed, but it’s not long before Mack’s resolve to keep his distance crumbles as he falls under Stevie’s gentle spell.

Shared secrets bind them together. Two souls, once lost, find each other and discover life really can be full of hope, promise and love.

But the street doesn’t give up its own without a fight and Stevie is faced with a stark and heart wrenching choice: do what’s demanded of him, or risk exposure? The life Stevie craves hangs in the balance, one wrong decision and he loses everything – including Mack.

This book tore me up and I loved it!

Stevie & Mack is the second book in the Barista Boys series but can be read as a standalone with no problem. While I really enjoyed Danny & Jude, book 1 in the series, Stevie and Mack ripped my heart out and then put it back together again.  Please read the book blurb (above); it says what the book is about so much better than I can. I can tell you what this book did to me, though. I love books that hit me hard emotionally and boy did this one. I’m not sure I’ve ever shed tears so fast in any other book. Chapter one and two nearly gutted me.

Stevie is desperate, more desperate than anyone could ever know. He’s not a thief and yet now he is. When Mack catches him stealing baked good from the Barista Boys café he figures it’s the end. Mack is incensed that someone would dare to steal from his uncle’s café and he wants to see Stevie punished. Fortunately for Stevie, Mack’s uncle, Bernie, is more forgiving.

Stevie & Mack is one of the most heart-wrenching stories I’ve read in a while. Both of these characters have a lot of baggage and things to work through before they get to their HEA but it was absolutely a pleasure to take the journey with them even though I hurt for them so much at the time.

There is a wonderful, secondary plot within this story that’s about Bernie. While I kind of guessed what was going on I didn’t guess it all and Bernie’s story added so much to Stevie and Mack’s story.

I don’t know if there are more books planned for this series but I’d love for Bernie to get an HEA. Please, Ms. Ryecart?

About Author

A. E. Ryecart

I’ve always told stories. I used to tell them to myself, but with the discovery of a whole tribe of like-minded mm readers and writers, I’m now telling those stories to the world.

One of my favourite places to write is the café at the gym. An early morning swim, then settling down with the laptop and a strong coffee, surrounded by energy and music, is my idea of a good time. I’m easily pleased.

I live with Mr R just outside London, near to a lovely historic town jam-packed with good pubs and cafes.
