I wish I could give this one more than 5 stars.
The Rancher’s Son is book two in R. J. Scott’s Montana series. I struggled a bit when I read book one but OMG this book more than made up for that and I’m so glad I read both of them.Ethan Allens life changed dramatically when his brother, Justin and his friend Adam disappeared without a trace 12 years ago. Ethan and Adam had just admitted their feelings for each other but they were so young…and then Adam and Justin were gone.
Ethan has never stopped believing that Justin and Adam are alive even when his father, Marcus, gave up hope. This caused a huge rift between the two of them. After Ethan left Crooked Tree Ranch to follow his dream of becoming a cop the rift got even wider.
Now it looks like there’s a break in the case and Ethan must follow the lead to see if it can help him find Justin or someone who might help him discover what really happened all those years ago.
This story hit every one of my buttons. There’s suspense, mystery and it evoked all of my emotions. At times I had tears running down my face but I also smiled a lot.
Ethan smiled, and this time the smile reached his eyes. “You mean I’m healing you with my magic penis?”
Adam snorted and kissed him again, this time lying flat and enjoying cloaking Ethan’s body.
“It’s a thing, you know,” Ethan said deadpan.
I know not everyone enjoys an emotionally charged story but for me they are the best kind. I dare anyone who reads this not to feel strongly about what happened to “John Doe.”
Like the first book this story is also very much about family and the characters from the first book play an important part in this one. R. J. Scott’s description of Crooked Tree Ranch is superb; I got a clear picture of it in my mind as I read. Her character descriptions are equally wonderful; I found myself wincing while reading about John Doe’s injuries.
This story answers a lot of questions that were not answered in book one. And, like book one, this doesn’t exactly have a cliffhanger. The story for the main characters is resolved but not all questions are answered and I for one can’t wait to read the next book.
