Tired of her mother’s matchmaking, Alexandra Belle Boyette wishes she could find a man with all the loyalty and unconditional love of her dog. I couldn’t stop laughing in places and didn’t want to put this one down.

This is book 3 in the Cajun Magic Mystery series but it can also be read as a stand-alone. I was enchanted by the first book in this series, I liked the second one and this one had me laughing out loud in places (just like the first book).Alex doesn’t have time for a relationship. She has her own business to run and 18 brothers and sisters that keep her busy. Since her father passed away she tries to help her mother as much as she can. Her friend wants her to find the same kind of happiness that she found with Alex’s brother, Ben, so she has her grandmother (a famous Voodoo Priestess) help her concoct a charm to find a man. Things go pretty wrong when Alex, unknowing what the Voodoo charm is for, says to her dog, “Oh, Sport, I wish you were a man.” It was soon after this that I started laughing so much I could hardly keep reading.

After voicing her wish Alex falls asleep. The next thing she knows is that she wakes up next to a strange man who licks her on the face. OK, I know I’m not making it sound so funny here but, trust me, you will laugh when you read this for yourself. It’s not as easy as you might think for a dog-turned-man to behave correctly.

Our hero, Ed, works with Alex’s brother and he’s in Bayou Miste to help keep a key witness safe. No one can know what Ed really does or why he is “vacationing” in Bayou Miste. Ed is renting a small house from Alex’s mom and her mother has set her sights on setting up Ed with Alex. Ed, however, wants no part of a relationship. His ex-wife divorced him because of his job and he’s decided that he’s not relationship material.

I think this book is a perfect blend of comedy, sexy time, and mystery. Someone is out to get Ed’s witness and he finds that he not only needs to protect the witness but also Alex and her family.

If you’ve never read romantic comedy before, but you like other books by Elle James, you really need to give this one a try. All three books in the series are great but I think this one is now my favorite.
