I thought I was straight for all of my twenty-six years. I dated women. I slept with women. And yeah, occasionally I’d wondered what it would be like to experiment with a guy. We’ve all done it, right? A couple of times at least? Only, I never did more than wonder.
But after one conversation with him…
I still don’t know why I said yes. It wasn’t as if he was flirting with me – well, not much. All we did was talk. And then he asked me out.
Okay, so it would be a new experience. I can roll with that. But what if he wants to sleep with me? How about that?
I’m nervous. I’m confused. And as for the whole ‘I’m straight’ thing?
Yeah. I’m rethinking that. Big time.
And I can’t wait for Saturday till I see him again.

I couldn’t put it down!
This book – swoon! I’m a sucker for out-for-you, gay-for-you, bi-awakening – whatever you want to call them – stories. When K.C. Wells announced in her Facebook group that she was going to write this story, and gave us little teasers, I knew I had to read it asap! I’m part of her review team so I knew that I could get an early copy. The problem was that I had a really heavy reading schedule and I wasn’t sure I’d be able to read and review it by its July 6th release date. Well, I made time and I’m so glad I did (I’ve also pre-ordered a copy).
The story is told in first person by Lee and I loved the way it read. The dialogue was so natural, it was like listening to a conversation. I don’t know if that makes sense or not but a lot of the time I don’t care too much for first person POV stories; they seem harder to read. But reading Gay on a Train was like listening to an old friend catch me up on things since we last saw each other.
The story has a bit of a rom-com feel and a lot of that is due to Lee and his quips about his co-workers and the self-deprecating way his internal dialogue goes. He’s fascinated by Daniel when they get to talking at the station waiting for their train and they continue talking after boarding. He’s a bit stunned when Daniel asks him out but he says yes and then the fun starts.
Lee has 4 roommates and they add a lot of richness to the story. A couple of them help Lee work out how he feels about going out with a gay man and he’s relieved to know that they are so accepting of this new side of him. Daniel has a couple of friends that we meet, too, and they also add depth to the story.
I don’t really know what else to say. Telling you I couldn’t put it down doesn’t seem like enough but it’s the truth and I can’t recommend this story enough. It’s going on my list of favorite books for 2020.
