She grows tired of the other archaeopteryxes laughing at her, and decides to go practice near the caves where the people live. The people laugh at first too, but soon they notice that each of Izzy’s failed flights leads to a wonderful new invention or discovery.
 
Cave paintings, fire, even the wheel—all are results of Izzy’s clumsiness coupled with her determination to fly. Will Izzy ever learn to fly like the other birds, or will she decide it’s okay to be different?

This book was amazing because Izzy the bird helped the caveman without knowing it and he helped her to learn to fly. Even though some of this stuff couldn’t have really happened the story was fun to read. Izzy’s accidents became inventions that really helped the caveman. All the ways that Izzy tried to fly were so funny but didn’t work really well. When she hurt herself she found out the caveman was really friendly, caring and helpful. After everything she did to fly home, Izzy decided to move in with her caveman friend. This story was about learning to keep trying and not give up. Izzy really grew up while learning to fly. ~ Alyssa, age 10.
 
Izzy the Inventor is an enjoyable read. The illustrations are great and entertaining as well for the young reader. We certainly enjoyed reading about Izzy’s antics as she learned to fly back to her nest only to find a new friend and decide to move away from her family in the end. I would recommend this books especially as a read aloud for the very young reader and appropriate for the early reader on their own. Although complex dinosaur names are introduced at the very beginning in the introduction the rest of the book is easily read.
