Searching for Harmony By Kelly Elliott
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Released: July 12, 2016
Publisher: Loveswept
Series: Boston Love, Book 1
Firefighter and first responder Preston Ward thought he had grown immune to the job’s emotional burns. But when he goes out on a particularly tragic call, he realizes that some scenes are too devastating to forget. And yet, if it weren’t for that terrible night, he never would have met the woman who makes him want to risk his heart.
More than once, Harmony Banks has watched her perfectly ordered world torn apart by fate. Now she’s finding out that what she lost wasn’t as perfect as she thought—and it’s tearing her apart. The only thing that keeps her going is the kindness of a stranger: the firefighter who saved her life the night everything changed.
Preston isn’t like the men who have come before. For one thing, he’s far more genuine. And the love Harmony feels growing between them is almost too intense for her wounded soul. But if she and Preston can push past heartbreak, they’ll find that something incredible awaits in each other’s arms.

This one was just OK for me.
I have to start this review by saying that I will read almost any kind of romance – from sweet to smut (and I do love a good smutty book). I’m starting with that because there was something about the sex scenes and some of the language in this book that bothered me. I’m trying to find a way to describe how I feel about it and the best thing that I can come up with is the language during the sex scenes seemed forced. For me it just didn’t fit with the tone of the rest of the book which leaned towards the sweet side.
I’ve run across this before and it seems like some authors try to sex up or spice up their stories by almost randomly adding “dirty” words during the sex scenes. Hot and dirty sex scenes are wonderful if they fit with the tone of the rest of the book and for me it didn’t work with this one. At times I got distracted by the language and got pulled out of the story.
Other than what I mention above I liked the story and felt that the writing was very good. The story is horribly sad in places (read the book blurb) yet optimistic in others. Preston and Harmony have a real connection and I felt that connection strongly except during the sex scenes. These two characters go through a lot before they get to their HEA but they do get there and the epilogue was a much appreciated part of the book. I really do enjoy books with a good epilogue!
I didn’t hate this book but I didn’t love it. It’s the first in a new series called Boston Love and I would be willing to read another story in this series to see if there’s any improvement in the writing.
