I totally love the dystopian world Kit Rocha has created for the Beyond series. With the beginning of the eighth book in the series, Beyond Ecstasy, the sectors are on the brink of all-out war with Eden. A time when tensions are high, emotions are at an all-time high and one might think that a budding romance would be the last thing on anyone’s mind… they would be oh so wrong.
Hawk has been single-minded in his pursuit of having Jeni for his own. Yet he repeatedly snubs her. When it comes down to it he hasn’t really pursued any woman. The product of his upbringing in the farming community of sector six, Hawk wants no woman he cannot claim as his own. One night or a simple fling would never be enough. Hawk had been there and done that, he has the emotional scars to prove it. So while he waits impatiently for the day he can win and claim Jeni, he spends his days fighting to keep sector four safe and using his expertise to build rooftop gardens. Once a week his night is spent expending his frustration in cage fights. Then one night Jeni pursues him and he offers her his collar…
Jeni grew up in a powerful family inside Eden. She couldn’t wait to leave it and all the society climbing behind. So the moment she could she left for the sectors. After years living in a pleasure house, she’s become an O’Kane. With her skill at remembering everything she reads and putting together patterns, she’s become invaluable. Capture by their enemies could also prove detrimental. She’s been with a number of the O’Kanes and was even involved quite deeply with Dallas and Lex. She’s never had someone to call her own, though. After lusting after Hawk for months she really has to question his motives when he offers her his collar. Does he really get the significance of the collar or ink for that matter? With all her doubts though she decides to take the risk.
Things are passionate and erotically sensual between Jeni and Hawk. Their journey to love is quick. But when Jeni and Hawk come to realize that all their motives were wrong for the collaring it puts a major rift between them. It’ll take coming to realize that no matter their first intentions, the love they have for each other is more than worth fighting for. In the meantime, things are heating up in the war with Eden. As with any war expect losses. Expect a shuffling of the lines. Knowing that Beyond Ecstasy is the second to the last in this series leaves me dreading and yet anticipating the final story in the Beyond series. I really hate to see this one end and on that note, I’m so darned happy to hear that the authors have chosen to create a spinoff series, Gideon’s Riders. This is one author team that has erotic dystopian romance down pat and I’m going to hate the day they decide they’ve run out of stories.
