A fantastic start to a new series!

Annabeth Albert has been on my list of favorite authors for several years now and books like Bring Me Home are exactly the reason why. I like books that make me feel things deeply and this one did that and more. Age-gap stories aren’t always my favorite romance trope but this one is so good; I read it straight through.

Monroe is newly out of the Navy – he was an NCIS investigator – and he’s returned to Safe Harbor because his aunt left him her large Victorian house when she died. This was very unexpected even though he had spent some of his high school years with her. Knox is the son of Monroe’s friend and he needs a place to stay for the summer. He has mad DIY skills so he’s staying with Monroe in exchange for helping on the house.

Monroe and Knox have explosive chemistry together but Monroe knows that his friend will kill him if he messes around with his son. Knox wants to have a secret summer fling and Monroe finally gives in. There’s just one problem: feelings. Both of them develop feelings but know that they will go their separate ways at the end of the summer.

Bring Me Home broke my heart in places but I knew Annabeth would put it all back together again before it was over. The scenes with Knox and his father were especially tough and brought on the tears but it all worked out in the end.

There is a background plot involving a cold-case murder that Monroe and Knox get involved in solving but it won’t be resolved until later in the series. There is a super interesting cast of secondary characters and this story sets the scene for the next two books, which will be released later this year.
